adjustment resources

KNUFFLE BUNNY FREE

This book is fabulous for any child who has a "lovey" that they feel like they cannot do without. The attachment is real and powerful, and yet there can come a point in which they are ready to let go of clinging to it so tightly. That's exactly what happens in this story of a little girl named Trixie and her "knuffle bunny." This book highlights attachment, comfort, the anxiety of separating from what is comforting, and growing up.

big sister now

This book sheds light on the significant adjustment that occurs in families when a new sibling joins the family. In this sweet story this little girl shifts from being the baby and begins to identify herself as "big." In becoming the big sister she learns to wait for what she wants and needs, so that the baby can be taken care of well. This highlights the need in families for flexibility in roles in the face of significant transitions of any kind.

Maple and willow apart

Maple and Willow are two sisters who love playing together. These sisters enjoy spending time together and face a significant adjustment when Maple begins attending school all day. Adjustments are hard, and yet this story tells of sisters who are able to gracefully transition and change and find a way to still cherish time together in the afternoons and on weekends.

the Berenstain Bears’ moving day

This book tells of the bear family moving from a cave in the mountains to their new treehouse down in the valley. This story validates the mixed emotions that can come with preparing for a move as there might be excitement and hope about the new opportunities of the future and yet the sadness over saying good-bye to the people in your life. This may especially be a relevant resource for a child in preparing and anticipating for an upcoming move in their life.
