COUPLES
Are you a couple who desires to strengthen your communication, to learn to voice your needs in addition to attending to your partner’s needs? Do you desire support for protecting oneness while navigating logistics of parenting and working?
What is the difference between COUNSELING and coaching?
Coaching with Elizabeth is for someone or a couple who feels that they are mostly feeling okay, yet who desire personal growth. It is not about mental health diagnoses and support with severe, pervasive anxiety and depression and trauma. Coaching is more focused on actionable steps in the here and now as well as about future goals. Coaching does not involve insurance at all.
It may mean that someone is simultaneously working with a therapist and a coach, but the goals and content of the work look different. It may also mean that someone might work with a counselor through some specific content and then be in a place where they pursue coaching at a different time in their life.
What are coaching focus areas?
Coaching can take different forms depending on someone’s goals. Elizabeth supports individuals with goals for growth for themselves for solidifying their sense of self-worth and living more aligned with what they value, need, and want. Elizabeth also provides support to individuals with healthy relationships in mind such as parenting support as well as communication and boundaries support, etc. In addition to working with individuals, Elizabeth also works directly with couples to strengthen attachment and a sense of partnership.
Can elizabeth provide both counseling and coaching?
Ethically, it’s important to distinguish between the two roles even though Elizabeth offers both services. This involves discernment on the front end of what you need and how you want to work with Elizabeth.
If you choose to work with Elizabeth as a coach, it’s important to note that she is not your therapist, yet the mental health training and background are there, so if a more serious issue comes up, Elizabeth can help recommend more support.
Flip flopping between the two services at various points in life is not the goal here because of ethically needing to separate the services, so it’s important to choose which service is the better fit for you. Elizabeth can help you discern between the services and knowing which option is best for you.
Can I live anywhere and work with elizabeth as a coach?
Yes, coaching is open geographically—particularly if you choose to meet with Elizabeth online.
What are the modalities of meeting for coaching?
Coaching sessions can take place online or in person. Elizabeth meets with clients online through a program called Simple Practice, offering confidential face to face video sessions. In person coaching sessions are also available and can take place at Elizabeth’s office or through walking outdoors right outside of Elizabeth’s office.
What if I want in person coaching?
Elizabeth offers the opportunity for coaching to be in person if you are located near Chattanooga, TN. If you are located near Chattanooga and working with Elizabeth, it’s possible to combine in person and online coaching sessions based on what is most supportive and convenient. For example, someone might primarily want in person sessions, yet choose to have an online session one week due to not feeling 100% or needing to be at home, etc. This offers the best of both worlds in some ways.
ARE WALKING SESSIONS AVAILABLE FOR COACHING?
Yes, Elizabeth’s office is right next door to a walking track allowing for walking coaching sessions. This provides an opportunity for physical movement, which is incredibly linked to feeling better due to releasing endorphins and promoting wellness. This is a tangible opportunity to integrate mental, emotional, and physical health. In case of rain or bad weather, meeting in Elizabeth’s office or online offer contingent back up plans.
For walking coaching to be a good fit, you must be comfortable with being seen with Elizabeth. This involves discerning your comfort level and noting that this is not as private as meeting in an office or online. This may also be a good fit if you find yourself so busy that it’s hard to fit in movement into your days. Additionally, for parents of babies, it’s possible to consider bringing a stroller and walking your baby during coaching. There is an additional consent form for walking sessions. To take part in walking coaching, it does not mean that you are tied to always walking, it just means that it is one modality and option for meeting.
Because coaching sessions are shorter than counseling sessions, the actual walking time will be shorter to allow for the whole session to be contained in 40 minutes.
HOW LONG ARE COaching SESSIONS?
Coaching sessions are 45 minutes. Coaching work is enhanced by reflecting and practicing self-awareness between sessions. Because coaching sessions are shorter than counseling sessions, coaching fees look different than counseling fees.
what is the cost?
Fees are the same for coaching, whether it takes place online or in person. With coaching, Elizabeth does not provide a mental health diagnosis, and so while Elizabeth can provide a receipt for services, Elizabeth will not provide a superbill for insurance as coaching services are not covered by insurance.
45 minute coaching sessions are $135/session. If after the first session, someone desires to work at least short term with Elizabeth and book her for a four session package, each session will be discounted leading to a total savings of $20 for four sessions. In addition, if future four session bundles are desired, the same discount applies. Payment for the four session bundle is paid at one time. Any payment received before services are delivered is nonrefundable.
To meet with Elizabeth, coaching services are paid for out of pocket. Payment is due each session and may be paid by credit card or check if preferred. Elizabeth uses Ivy Pay, which allows you to enter your credit card information; it then stores the information in a confidential way that makes it easy to process payments for each additional session.
What is the expected frequency of coaching sessions?
Weekly sessions are recommended initially due to building rapport and gaining traction on goals. Once initial coaching work is done, someone might be ready to conclude coaching if they have benefited from the short term, focused work together. Elizabeth is open to scheduling bi-monthly sessions and then ongoing monthly “check in” sessions if more support is desired.
What about faith and coaching?
Every professional brings who they are to the table. Elizabeth’s Christian faith does inspire who she is and values she holds, yet Elizabeth works with people with different perspectives on faith. Elizabeth values hearing where the person she is working with is coming from and works with individuals on working towards coaching goals while keeping in mind the values that they hold as important.
