feelings resources

the way I feel

This book normalizes the range of emotions that people experience. It’s told in first person from a girl’s perspective. It names various emotions and provides context for what might be happening when someone feels this way. I love how it normalizes the integration of feelings as all being a part of this girl. This book builds emotional intelligence as it equips kids to be able to name their feelings and become more self-aware of their own and perhaps other people’s emotions.

double dip feelings

This is a great resource for helping kids understand mixed emotions when typically this can be confusing territory for kids (and adults!). Through the brief telling of little vignettes, children are given relatable experiences that normalize the ambivalence that exists when two contrasting feelings are present at the same time. This is a great tool for building emotional intelligence in kids and helping them grow in self-understanding of their emotions.

listening to my body

This book raises awareness of the connection between sensations in our bodies and our feelings. It encourages its readers to pay attention and notice when you are hungry, tired, cold, etc. In this way, it encourages listening to your body and giving your body what it needs as ultimately this helps lead to a more calm, regulated emotional state since our bodies and emotions are so connected. This book includes tangible calming activities to help bring the body and mind to a calm place. This is a great resource for adults too as many times we keep powering through instead of listening to our body and resting when we need to, etc.
