anxiety resources
turn my mourning into dancing
This book is written from a Christian perspective and is a resource for anxiety as well as grief and just approaching hard times in general. It is referenced as an anxiety resource because of Henri Nouwen’s emphasis on approaching life and relationships lightly rather than clinging to control and what we expect to happen. When we do this, we are able to navigate through life in a more grounded way whether in a time of great joy or a season of significant difficulty.
Sitting Still like a frog
While meant for children, this is a great resource for adults and children alike in that it introduces mindfulness and equips readers with coping strategies for learning to surf the waves of emotions that hit you even when you can not stop the waves from coming. It comes with a c.d. that guides listeners through mindfulness exercises. This is a parenting resource as well as a great option for educators who desire to incorporate some calm into their classrooms.
brain lock
This book speaks to those suffering from obsessive compulsions and behaviors, which is a form of anxiety. Jeffrey Schwartz provides insight into the cycle of obsessive thinking that continues to circulate through someone’s mind. He works to equip and empower readers with strategies to create space between their own thoughts and the obsessive thoughts, leading to great freedom.
the next right thing guided journal
Inherent with anxiety can be great overwhelm at the weight of the unknown future. “What if” thinking can take over, and yet one strategy that can be so helpful in mitigating anxiety is focusing on one step at a time. In the realm of decision-making which is so often an anxiety trigger, this is an incredible resource for generating reflection and calm around discerning the next right thing. I love the specific encouragement to consider what is life-giving as one goes about making decisions.
